Vanilla Lattes are something I crave far too often. As they’re on the pricier side, (especially with us trying to reduce our spending habits) it’s an indulgence I can’t splurge on too often. Also, since we’ve moved up North, we now don’t have a Starbucks nearby (horror upon horror).

Thankfully, vanilla bean syrup is a great and affordable way to bring Starbucks into your own home. You can easily tweak this recipe to make different flavoured syrups as well. Experiment away!

Disclaimer: This is not the same recipe as Starbucks syrups. It is my own copycat version.

Vanilla Bean Syrup

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup Water
  • 2 cups Sugar
  • 1 tsp Salted Butter (optional)
  • 2 Vanilla Bean Pods

Instructions:

  1. In a saucepan, bring one cup of water to the boil.
  2. Add your sugar, and stir continuously until completely dissolved. Turn the heat down to a medium setting.
  3. Optional: Stir in a teaspoon of butter for a rich, creamier flavour.
  4. Split open the vanilla bean pods and scrape the seeds into the syrup. Once all the seeds are removed, throw in the split pods as well.
  5. Let it simmer for 5 – 7 minutes so that the syrup can thicken.
  6. Remove from heat and let it cool in the pan for 30 minutes.
  7. Take out the larger chunks of vanilla pod with tongs and strain the rest of the syrup into a glass bottle or jar.

Note: If you don’t have any vanilla pods, try using vanilla bean paste. Replace the 2 pods with 4 teaspoons of the paste.

Next time you make a coffee for yourself, add in some of this syrup instead of sugar or other sweeteners and you’ll have a Starbucks-like drink for a fraction of the cost… yum!

Stay Foxxy,

xo
